Bogdanci citizens almost unanimously voted against the operation of Kazandol mine and the opening of other mines in the municipality at a referendum held on Sunday.
"About 62 percent of registered voters came out and therefore the referendum in Bogdanci is successful", said Venera Zeleva, chairperson of the municipal election commission.
According to preliminary results, 4,120 out of 4,321 citizens voted against the operation of Kazandol mine, while about the same number (4,126) opted against the opening of other mines at the municipality's territory.
The referendum results are binding for the local self-government.
A referendum on the same issue was held in Gevgelija in April, producing a similar result. Dojran will hold a vote next week.
