The Off Fest festival opens on Thursday in Skopje and will feature internationally acclaimed sevdah singer Damir Imamovic from Bosnia and the Macedonian Ljubojna ethno-band featuring its latest album.
Imamovic opens the festival on Thursday at 20h at the Macedonian National Theater. Coming from a family of performers of the traditional mournful Bosnian songs known as sevdalinki, he has revived the tradition of sevdah music.
Ljubojna perform at the 22h slot on Thursday, and they will bring their recognizable style of reinventing Macedonian folk classics.
On Friday, Off Fest features the Italian Communist inspired Bella Ciao band, as well as Portugese fado singer Gisela Joao. On Friday, the festival moves to the Youth Cultural Center (MKC) hall and will feature Estonian performer Maarja Nuut and the Korean Black Strings, as well as a midnight performance by Den Sorte Skole in the Mala Stanica club.
And on Saturday, the festival is dedicated to African rhythms with Ghanian singer King Ayisoba and Mauritanian singer Noura Mint Seymali.
