The new children's program within the Skopje Film Festival kicks off Friday at the Cinematheque of Macedonia in Skopje.
The Skopje Film Festival and Blue Bird Association for Supporting Children and Youth with Differences in Skopje engage children with and without disabilities in the creation of the film program, dubbed 'Creating Together'.
The children's film program offers eight short movies for all children, trying to overcome certain taboos and stereotypes about people with disabilities.
The project involved students with and without disabilities between the ages of 9 and 14 from eight inclusive schools in Skopje, Tetovo and Strumica who, in the spirit of self-advocacy, spoke about themselves and their world through the workshops for photography, videos and the design of the poster for the children's program. The creative workshops were led by prominent artists: Vane Kosturanov (poster), Natasa Gelevska (photography) and Jane Altiparmakov (video).
The project is implemented with the support of the European Union, as part of the program 'Protecting children from violence and promoting social inclusion of children with disabilities in Western Balkans and Turkey', and is co-financed and implemented by UNICEF.
