Macedonian high-quality and world famous marble can become more competitive in foreign markets by use of adequate modern marble processing technology. To this purpose, representatives of 28 companies, concessionaires of marble attend Tuesday in Skopje the presentation of Italian technology for the extraction and processing of natural stone.
The event was organized by the ICE-Italian Trade Promotion Agency Office of Economic Cooperation at the Italian Embassy in Macedonia in cooperation with Italian Association of Marble Processing Machinery Manufacturers and mineral resources department within the Ministry of Economy.
Raimundo Lovati from Italian Association of Marble Processing Machinery Manufacturers said that Macedonian manufacturers are given the opportunity to be more competitive in foreign markets by increasing the quality of processing the Macedonian marble. Macedonian marble industry has large potential and by use of adequate technology Macedonian marble can be even more competitive in foreign markets, Lovati said.
ICE-Italian Trade Promotion Agency Office of Economic Cooperation at the Italian Embassy in Macedonia informed that Macedonian companies last year during the Verona fair showed interest in introduction of new technologies in marble processing.
"Some 28 companies from Macedonia that are concessionaires of mines marble attend the presentation. Eighty meetings are planned to be held which once again confirm the interest of Macedonian companies for Italian technology that would allow to optimize production processes and to achieve production, higher quality and to be more competitive in foreign markets," said Cinzia Bruno, director of ICE-Italian Trade Promotion Agency Office of Economic Cooperation at the Italian Embassy in Macedonia.
Italian Ambassador Carlo Romeo who attended the presentation said that Macedonia has white marble which is very rare and on the other hand, Italy is a leader in manufacturing technology for marble processing marble.
"I hope that today’s meeting will result in quality cooperation and possible new investments in technology. Italian and Macedonian production systems are complementary since they are based on small and medium-sized enterprises," Romeo underlined.
Italy exports equipment for processing of marble in 120 countries around the world, and its main export partners are the USA, China, Spain, India, Turkey. Exports of equipment for stone processing from Italy reached EUR 1 billion in 2016. Trade exchange between Macedonia and Italy last year has improved by Italy taking the 5th place as Macedonia’s trading partner. Macedonian import of technology from Italy in marble sector has doubled in the last two years reaching EUR 1.1 million in 2016.
The State Statistical Office data shows that Macedonian export of marble and granite abroad has increased by 30 percent in the period from 2012 to 2016 and it surpassed EUR 20 million turnover in 2016.
